The traffic stop that led to the man's arrest happened around 3:27 a.m. on Sunday, June 15, in the Putnam County town of Southeast, New York State Police announced on Tuesday, June 17.

At this time, troopers stopped a 2018 Audi on Danbury Road (Route 202) for multiple traffic violations. The driver, identified as 42-year-old Jose A. Gonzalez of Brookfield, was the only person in the car, police said.

Police added that Gonzalez showed signs of impairment and failed field sobriety tests. A probable cause search of the car turned up about 12.2 grams of cocaine, troopers said.

Gonzalez was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a narcotic drug. He was then arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court and released on his own recognizance.

Gonzalez is due back in court on Tuesday, July 8 at 9:30 a.m.
